Introduction
In water distribution networks, every joint is a critical node. A poorly executed connection or an incompatible fitting can lead to leaks, service interruptions and high maintenance costs. Universal joints for water pipelines address this problem at the root: a mechanical connection system compatible with any pipe material, available from stock up to DN 700 and on request up to DN 1600.
What is a universal joint
A universal joint — also called a flexible coupling — is a mechanical pipe-joining device that connects pipes of different materials and diameters without welding or special machining. The system consists of a central sleeve, grooved gaskets, flanges and bolts that, once tightened, create a watertight seal while tolerating both axial movement and angular deflection.
Key performance parameters are angular deflection up to 3° per side and axial movement between 0 and 10 mm — essential in unstable soils, settlement-prone ground or seismic-risk areas.
Compatibility with all pipe materials: the key advantage
Versatility is the system’s main strength. Kamflex Europe universal joints connect pipes in steel, grey and ductile iron, asbestos cement, U-PVC, HDPE and glass-fibre reinforced plastics. This makes them ideal for new networks and — above all — for repair and rehabilitation work on existing infrastructure, where pipes from different eras coexist in the same network.
Multi-size joints: the solution for non-standard diameters
When pipes have mismatched or non-standard outside diameters, the answer is Kamflex Europe multi-size joints Il manicotto rastremato si adatta a un range di diametri esterni, eliminando la necessità di pezzi dedicati.
Restrained joints and dismantling joints
For applications where internal pressure generates longitudinal thrust forces, the system incorporates a mechanical locking device that prevents pipe pull-out even under demanding operating conditions. The range is completed by dismantling joints, designed to allow the replacement or removal of pipe sections or inline equipment — such as valves and meters — without invasive works, significantly reducing downtime.
Certified quality and regulatory compliance
The entire range complies with EN 545 and EN ISO 9001. Il rivestimento in resina epossidica, applicato con spessore minimo di 250 micron secondo EN 14901, garantisce protezione dalla corrosione nel lungo periodo, anche in ambienti aggressivi. All materials in contact with water are approved for drinking water applications.
A complete integrated range for every project requirement
Universal joints are part of a broader system. Kamflex Europe also supplies ductile iron fittings — bends, tees and reducers up to DN 1600 — alongside a full range of valves for water supply and sewage networks, covering every design and maintenance requirement.
Stock availability and technical support
Kamflex Europe holds stock of the full universal joints range up to DN 700, in both sleeve and flanged configurations. For larger diameters or special applications, the technical team is available for tailored quotations and product selection support.
